Are the Flyers Making the Right Moves?

More trades and more questions can be made now for the Philadelphia Flyers. With Jeff Carter gone to Columbus and Mike Richards being shipped west to LA, the Flyers' trade drama was not done.

The Flyers acquired a draft pick from Minnesota in exchange for Darroll Powe. Not only that, but the Flyers signed Andreas Nodl and Tom Sestito to contract extensions. But one man believes that the Flyers are heading in the right direction and that one man is hockey legend Bobby Clarke.

All right, so let's think here for a moment. Two quality players for the Flyers are gone and it seems like the Flyers gave up another quality player to Minnesota. Now while Powe is not as great as Richards or Carter, it would seem like a necessary idea to keep Powe together so that van Riemsdyk, Briere, or Pronger have something to work with. But now, do I agree with Bobby Clarke?

In a way, yes I do. The Flyers have to make these pieces in order to fit Ilya Bryzgalov for the future and acquire some needs for their team down the road. However, this'll take time to fully integrate and if the Flyers do make the playoffs, then congratulations to the reformation of the team. If they miss it, then it wouldn't surprise me, because the offense needs retooling.

Now I've heard two things from Flyers fans: they're glad to see Jeff Carter gone and van Riemsdyk might take the captaincy since former captain Mike Richards is out. I fully agree with fans on van Riemsdyk since he sounds like a huge part of the offense and he has the leadership. But Briere and Pronger are also reasonable choices to lead this team. I think I partily agree with them on Jeff Carter, since most of Flyers fans felt he should've walked away a long time ago. But I still think he was one of the reasons the Flyers have been so successful. Now they'll have some offensive problems on their hands. Will they go for Brad Richards to help get some offense going? Or will they play it out and see what happens?

The Flyers are somewhat heading in the right direction, but will it be enough to help them win the Stanley Cup? Right now, the Stanley Cup seems unlikely, but if the Flyers front office makes some moves and tries to get Brad Richards, they'll probably be in a good spot to get a playoff position and compete for that elusive Stanley Cup.

  1. flyers made a bad move in dealing mike richards.the kid has won olympic gold, junior gold,a memorial cup,a clader cup ,and just missed a stanley cup.
richards is one of best 2 way players in the nhl and can do so many valuable things sych as pk,pp,faceoffs, block shots, fight and play tough...the guy is a warrior with talent and those r few and far between.
briere and prongers best yrs are behind em and trading richards, carter, letting gagne and powe go are all dumb moves.
the flyers problems were in net and on defence.the goal tending was brutal and carle and sean o donnell are pylons...flyers will be lucky to make the playoffs and a cups defin itely out the question!

  2. Flyers needed new blood held together by seasoned players, they appear to have gotten this by removing the egos which from all undercurrent in appearance dismantled team unity. Those going showed less this year and the name of the game is
committed improvement with TEAM attitude not personal ego. The list is long on players that showed all out effort in earning their position, those are the guys that remained..It's about TEAM
